Place the cue ball onto the brown spot. Play the cue ball up and down the center spots by rebounding off the top cushion. Keep still after the stroke to see if the cue ball comes back down the line of the tip of your cue. Unintentional side spin will result in the cue ball going off to one side. The firmer that you play this shot, the more accuracy that is required to strike center ball as the unintentional side spin will react more. As a word of warning, when playing this shot firmly, ensure that the cue ball does not make contact with the tip on its way back as this can cause damage to the tip or cue.
